It started with a green cup
We're a family in Sydney. This is why we make these.
We have exactly two green cups in our house and I gave her the wrong one, and the whole afternoon fell apart. I remember standing in the kitchen while it happened, thinking that she did not need another star chart. She needed somewhere to put a feeling that was too big to hold on her own yet. And I had nothing ready.
How many apps have you subscribed to, or Pinterest boards have you saved, in the hopes of coming back one day. I've been there. We all want meaningful connection with our children, in a life that is already too busy. But slowing down to think up a homework sheet, or how to teach a child to be grateful, takes brain power. At the end of a busy day, there isn't any.
So we started making little things for our own house. None of them were clever. All of them got used. Everything here was made at our kitchen table in Sydney, after bedtime, for one small person we love. The house is still loud. But there's a bit more room in the day for the parts that matter.
It's the little things that they will remember the most.
